Study player and pool profiles
Explore profile statistics, compare preflop ranges, and test a postflop matchup.
A profile is a model of a player type or pool. Use it to study a tendency and the response to it. It is not a verified description of a particular opponent or a promise about their next action.
Choose and understand a profile
Open Exploit in the product navigation. Pool Profiles describe groups of players; Player Profiles describe archetypes. Open a card and review its Overview, Preflop, and Postflop tabs.
Read the displayed statistics, sample/confidence information, and any healthy-range comparison together. A VPIP or aggression figure without its definition is easy to misread. Metric explanations provide context; leak and exploit notes describe the model, not a guaranteed outcome against every player with a similar statistic.
Keep observations from your own hands separate from the profile. A small sample or a vague read is a reason to test more than one plausible model.
Compare profile, GTO, and Against ranges
In the profile's Range Comparison, choose the Node Type—Open, Vs Open, or Vs 3-Bet—and the relevant Hero and Opponent positions. Opponent selection is not needed for an opening decision. The available choices depend on the profile's range data.
Read the range labels carefully:
- GTO is the baseline for the selected configuration.
- The profile range describes how that modeled player plays the decision.
- Against [profile] describes the response to that model.
Use Open this range in Study on the range you want to inspect. This carries the selected configuration and action context into Study. A profile range and an Against range are different strategies; do not swap their meaning because they appear next to each other.
If profile statistics load but range data does not, use the range panel's Retry control. Statistics being available does not mean the matching solution has loaded.
Carry the matchup into Study
Study's solution library includes supported Pool exploits and Player type configurations. The table also offers model and seat controls where that configuration supports them. Read the setup description to distinguish all-GTO play, a pool model, a GTO seat against a pool, and a response to a particular player type.
After choosing the matchup, follow the action to a heads-up flop. In a postflop setup, changing a seat's profile affects that player's modeled behavior across the postflop. The other player is re-solved against it; the preflop ranges stay unchanged by that profile change itself.
This distinction matters:
- Range editing changes which hands arrive and their weights.
- Profile selection changes the player's modeled postflop behavior.
- Nodelocking changes behavior at a particular decision.
Check the starting ranges separately in Solver Settings. A custom range is not automatically a custom behavioral profile.
Compare without overgeneralizing
At a supported profile decision, use Compare in the action line to view the current strategy against its GTO reference. Keep the same acting player, board, and action line. See Compare GTO, profiles, and locked strategies.
Try a less extreme model or a targeted nodelock if you want to know how sensitive the adjustment is. Describe the conclusion conditionally: “Against this modeled calling tendency…” is more useful than labeling an opponent from one hand.
Watch the walkthrough
An illustrative Fisher walkthrough.
Fisher selects a calling-station profile for the player and pool being studied. It pairs the opponent’s profile range with your matching Against range. Both ranges carry into postflop study of the matchup.
